Yesterday I did the seafoam on my UIM. I went just as described in the many posts. I had the wife control the seafoam flow while I manipulated the primary and secondary. then i completely cleaned the TB and installed new gasket. Prior to doing all of this, I was looking for the best way to open the secondaries and did experiment a little with turning the IMRC gears by finger cuz reaching down there to flip the secondaries while trying to do everythning else didn't seem too good.

Anyway, seems that the car induction sounds better through that huge AFE cone now BUT I would say that there is some small power loss down low and I don't feel the secondary surge any more above 3k or so. The TB and UIM were so incredibly gunky that I thought it would make a some improvement. Did I screw up my IMRC or secondaries to where they are always open a little or never open? How to check? In general, the car runs fine now. Check engine light is on but that is probably still the P0420 which doesn't really relate much to this post. I'll have it scanned anyway and will gut the cats soon and install MILs. Any thoughts on the lesser performance / missing secondaries?

Ok. The cable was disconnected. I reconnected it and I'm ok now.

Can you tell me what product you used to clean the intake manifold and where you picked it up? Was this easy?

Thanks for the info. bdeitz@cns2corp.com

Use Berryman's B-12 and / or Seafoam. Search for those words and there will be lots of how-to articles on putty it in your tank and also on taking the IUM off and cleaning it the thorough way. It could take like 3 hours if you are slow and do a real good job. I could do it in < 1 hour if I had to.

Don't forget to buy a throttle body gasket FIRST!

Cool! Thanks.

One more question: Have you ever had to replace the EGR valve? I was able to get the two intake manifold bolts off but I cannot get to that 1" Nut coming from the Exhaust manifold pipe. Since I know this pipe is permanently connected to the manifold, I'm a little nervous about putting stress on it.

Any recommendations?

Getting a CEL P0401: EGR flow restricted. I know this needs to be changed out. Ford told me to do the induction cleaning as well and said to get my PCM microcode updated.

What do you think?

Thanks for the help!!

do not know much about that. I would refer to Chilton's and Haynes although sometimes they are useless too. I only cleaned my EGR passage. You should know however that after 120,000 miles of well maintained service my EGR passages had asphalt road tar looking crap and where completely clogged with black tar. I couldn't believe it. You have to clean it when you removed your TB. Use screwdrivers and dental picks and Berryman's and Seafoam and clean it as good as possible. Maybe your code will go away.
