I have a 1999 Contour SE. I was having a new stereo installed in place of the factory stereo. Instead of using a harness, the wires were cut and spliced where the old radio was. All of the speakers are matched and wired properly, and the stereo 12 volt battery wire, ignition wire, power antenna, and ground cable are all hooked up properly and the new stereo works. The only problem is the interior dash lights now do not work. There are no blown fuses or anything like that. There are two wires not hooked with a match with the new stereo. One is black with a green stripe and one is white with a stripe. Anyone know if or how these wires need to be connected or what the deal is with the dash lights?? Thanks.

You've double checked your dimmer switch?

i know this is not help at all, but why was it spliced in and no harnesses used?

When installed my deck, i also just cut all the wires and crimped everything, didnt know of harnesses back then.

black with green stripe is ground. there's a thick and thin one. i connected both to the ground on the hu's harness. the white green wire is for illumination. if your hu has this option connect it then, otherwise dont.

did u check the fuses under the hood or driver underdash? my guess is its the fuse (which is either 4 or 37 under the dash if i remember right)
