i have read that this is common among 99 owners. my problem is that the black piece that runs pretty much the length of the dashboard up by the windshield will not stay in place in the dash. it pops out all the time. i know it is because that part of the dash is warped and you can bend with your hand. is there a way i can fix this? will i have the glue the dash into place so that i can make the black plastic piece sit flush with the dash?
thanks it advance.
jason

Black piece? Hmmm... Black piece is usually being the piece of hard plastic dealerships used to fix the dash warp, that's what they did to mine as a free recall fix; b4 that I didn't have a black piece but just a color matching one. I heard that the fix had the same dash warp problems, but - knock knock on the wood mine is OK for now.

Not sure about the glue, probably will work with epoxy.

if i remove the black pice, there will be a gaping hole. i believe there are vents in that black piece for the defroster. there is a recall on them? even the svt ones? so i guess this is a common contour/mystique problem? anyone have a link to that because if there is a recall, you bet your bippy i will be down at the local ford dealer getting that fixed.

i will try to take a pic of it today and post it for you guys. can we post pics in this forum? my sig pic will not load for me?

I was told by the dealer that the recall has expired.
The kit from the delear costs $77.00
Labor at the dealer is around $ 300.00
You and a couple of friends might be able to do it.
The dash has to be removed to do it properly.

PS: The original plastic piece on a tan interior is black.

i guess i will just get some glue/epoxy and something heavy to put on it and let it set and try that. my buddy at work also has a contour, a contour se, i wonder if he has had the same problem. how long ago did the recall expire? those pics don't make it look to bad, but the black piece is popping out on the passenger side (as shown in the pic) the side closest to the windshield is isn't sitting in the gap for the black piece. btw, is there a link where i can find out what kind of recall stuff has to be done on my csvt? thanks guys

from what 3 dealerships told me....it expiered 2 years form the recall date.

becasue it's not a Safty issue (thats what they said) and its a cosmetic, they put experration dates on it...I believe they said it expired in 2000 or 2002....not sure on that one though.

Ooooh Oooooh, I fixed this problem no more than 5 days ago, FINALLY! Ford was being a pain and wouldn't cover it. What I did, and I know it sounds ghetto, was punch a hole in the center of each of the tabs that extends from the vinyl part of the dash (the part thats bending upwards toward the windshield) with a cotter pin remover. Then, I fed a zip tie (woohoo for zipties once more!) through each of those holes I punched and looped it around the metal frame directly below that black plastic grille/molding/air deflector and pulled it as tight as I could. Then you just fit the black plastic piece in over the top and it hides the cheating very nicely. Suprisingly, it worked very well for me. If you want a picture of the end result, email me, I dont know how to post pictures in these forums.
