Basically i bought the car in the winter and found out in the summer the AC didnt work, i filled it with r134a and it works for a two or three days then quikly losses the gas. I checked it for leaks and nothing, so i took it to pep boys for a quick ac check last year, know when want to fix it i kinda forgot what they told me was wrong. i actually bought a condensser from a junk yard, but know am pretty sure it was the evaporator that they said was bad, i remember the mechanic telling me that this part tends to rust out because of some defect. Does any one have this prob. I cant get a refund for the condensser but could probably exchange it for a evaporator.what is the exact function of the evaporator? any guys know about this A/C stuff? dont want to just start fxing things that are not broken. THANKS

Step 1: Find the leak. You have one. UV flouresent dye makes this a lot easier

Step 2. Repair the leak. This may involve relacing a defective part or repairing a connection.

The only component likely to rust out is the accumulator.

The evaporator is located inside the dash.

The condensor is located in front of the radiator.

The accumulator has that large metal can as part of it and includes some of the hosing.

Once you determine what the exact fault is, you can repair it. If you are not comfortable or are unfamiliar with working on the A/C system, it is better to have someone else do it for you. There are dangers to you involved that you need to take into consideration.
