I got two codes today 0401 and 1405, after checking older messages here it points to the DPFE sensor. I did a search on Advance Auto Parts' website and the only thing coming up is 'EGR valve position sensor'. Is this what the error code refers to as DPFE sensor?
Thanks!

Effectively the same thing.

The generic codes cut across different manufacturer's lines. While the nomenclature is somewhat different, the meaning is the same.

Are you sure? There is this older post:
http://www.contour.org/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=trouble&Number=408128&Forum=trouble&Words=DPFE%20part%20number&Match=And&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=333325&Search=true#Post389821

with the part number (F77Z-9J460-AB), and that part number comes up as E.G.R. VALVE POSITION SENSOR on Signature LM's website (http://www.signaturelm.com/frameset1.asp?LINK=Parts&MAIN=parts_wildcard1)...
I'm confused.

Well maybe it's different on duratecs. But EGR and DPFE are two separate things on the zetec. DPFE is located on the firewall, EGR valve is near the intake manifold, with lines running to the exhaust manifold. Unless the DPFE monitors EGR and there is no other sensor for EGR or whatever, I guess that's possible.

P0401 Insufficient EGR Flow.

P1405 Differential Pressure Feedback Electronic Sensor circuit Upstream Hose.

An EGR position sensor sits on the EGR valve and physically reads the position of the valve. Go look at your EGR valve and you will not see one. You have a DPFE mounted low on the read of the bank 1 head.

As has been stated, the EGR valve position sensor and the Differential pressure feedback EGR sensor do the same function in different ways. They share the same general code for EGR feedback.

You need to find out if the DPFE upstream hose is still on. If it has blown off, you have an exhaust backpressure issue. If it is still on, manually apply vacuum to the EGR valve to see if the valve and passages are clear. The RPMs should dip significantly. If the RPMs dip, you may have a bad DPFE. If they do not, clean the EGR passages.

Yeah Roger will get a big raise for his very detailed and accurate answers.
He would make a good instructor!
