does anybody who has custom exhaust system know if the flange between the cat and pipe that connects to the muffler is welded closed AND the 2 bolts, or is it just the 2 bolts alone???? thanks for the help!

The flange between the cat and the rest of the exhaust is just the two bolts. They're actually studs (or were on mine) so try not to break them. If your exhaust isn't moving and those two nuts are removed, it's probabl;y just rusted on, grab some safety glasses and a hammer and start tapping around the flange. Wouldn't hurt to get a good penetrating oil on there too, then start the car and let the exhaust heat up, it helps draw the penetrant in. HTH!
