Oh...pardon me. Rough day?
I did make my suggestion -- it's a more specific version of yours in my first sentence in case it was overlooked -- the 'S' model. The rest are just facts. How does lack of orgasmic praise constitute "bashing"?
To be fair, the other platforms are old, too, and I wouldn't pick either domestic unless they were almost given to me. Once we see a price range as has been requested of the poster, and some key features, then I may have another suggestion.

Power so long as you get the 'S' model with the huffer on top of the 2.3L motor--and then, only adequate.
Hardly a viable suggestion when you tack on your disclaimer at the end. The guy was looking for some constructive input & this is the best you could come up with?? I don't expect 'orgasmic praise' for my suggestion - I'd even welcome some 'bashing' if somebody experienced with these cars tells me they're not reliable or something like that.
Now, if all you needed was more information so you could post a recommendation, then ask for the info. You didn't do that even though you mention it in your follow up post. Maybe it's me, I shoulda been wearing my mind reading glasses.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Here is my price range: US$ 2,400 to US$ 3,000 I bought the Contour for US$ 2,400 last year. Then I have to add the import cost to that, that could be well another US$ 2,500. So, that is why the range is low. Key features are: sedan, power (3.0 L max considering US$ 3.20 per gallon price in Honduras) and a nice instrument cluster. I don't know if it's just me, but that part is really important.

Dude, what's with the attitude? Is it really worth ruining the demeanor of this thread because you don't feel my insights to be ear-tickling or constructive enough?
I suggest finding a thicker skin if you can't bear either the scrutiny or elucidation of your posts.

Don't they sell turbo'd statuses down there, that basically have the srt4 engine? I would get one of those.

No, I guess not. Seems to be a waste of time with some people, huh...

It's hard to imagine you'll be able to get into a '01+ Taurus or similar-vintage Stratus for that kind of bank roll, unless you can nab a high-mileage one at auction prices. You'll have to look back a few more years to get to that price range.
You could find an early Gen 4 Maxima, but it'll be with miles or high wear. Awesome instrument cluster, BTW. Same goes for a late 3rd/early 4th gen Camry, but the V6 models are sometimes tough to come by and command a premium.
Sounds like you're generally considering midsize...have you thought of something smaller like a Corolla or Civic? A late 90's Corolla -- while fantastically boring -- is within reason and can return great mileage and ruggedness. Power isn't mind-bending, but acceptable if you like to row your own gears.
