If I was you to remove these swirl marks I would use a soft orbital buffer found at Wal-Mart instead of those big heavy industrial like De Walt or Makita brand. Those will cause heavy swirl marks if not use properly. Believe me, the Wal Mart Type will leave amazing results. If very heavy scratches are found on the clear coat but not able to remove with anything. Try wet sanding the area with 1500 grade sandpaper. Use lots of water when doing this! Then wax that area with the buffer.

There's two types (well, three) of buffers out there.. The "consumer grade" ones like I have and you can find all over the place. Then machines like the Porter Cable 7424 that are still random orbital but have much heftier motors, adjustable speed, neat backing plate system, etc. With my Craftsman model, just placing it on the car bogs down the motor.. The PC machine was actually initially marketed as a sander, but by changing backing plates, it becomes a good tool to use on a car. PC has picked up on the fact that car detailers us it and has started marketing it towards them. With either of these, you gotta try really hard to damage your paint. This is the bad boy I want.

Then there are rotary buffers that just spin in a circle. You can burn through the paint very quickly with a rotary tool, leave buffer holograms, etc. Gotta be skilled to use one, and I wouldn't tream of trying one on my car, at least, not without practicing on a few junkyard panels first.

That's the exact same buffer that Meguiar's sells for $231.95! That's a big mark up on that unit, just to have the Meguiar's name on the side.

Seems like a very good unit though. There is very little information on it in the Meguiar's catalog, so reading the information at the link provided really sheads a lot of light on it.

Ya I picked mine up last year. I love that thing. Made polishing and waxing a very easy task. I can do my wifes Nissan Murano in about 2 hours. It increases the cutting action of polishes about 100x better than your hand. Good good machine.

Yes, exact same unit. Except, from Meguiar's you get a lifetime no questioned asked guarantee. Unit dies, they send you a new one. To some people, it's worth it. The tools are pretty stout, like anything from Porter Cable, but they do occassionally break.

Of all the reviews I've read about these machines, I haven't seen a single person that is unhappy with their purchase.

I know I paid to much for them but they are very good. I have had mine a year like I said and I have only had to buy 4 pads total, 2 red and 2 orange. Check here: Griots Garage Product #10626 and 10628

Those prices don't seem too bad. In line with other brands.

http://www.topoftheline.com/7durvelpad.html -- Supposed to be very good

http://www.premiumautocare.com/ed20dafopafo.html - this system looks neat, though kinda pricey

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/pc-7424-kit.html - that kit looks like it would be good for me.

So many products, so little time

I swear, the more I read about this Porter Cable 7424 and all the great stuff that can go with it, the more I want one!
If only my paint wasn't checking, it might be worth it.
