i'm thinking the SVT will take it..but just wanted to make sure (the wolfsburg is also a manual)

anyways, which do you think would win from dead stop to 60 mph?

if it makes any diff, btw, the jetta is a '99-'01, not quite sure what year

If it's the 1.8L turbo with a chip they are pretty quick.
Intake and exhaust mods even more so.

The turbo makes nice power and they are a bit lighter overall.

It's a driver's race just like any other pairing within about a 1 second.

If it's stock or near stock the SVT will definitely pull on it strong once moving.

However a great launch is always the key for a short race no matter what you drive.

the 1.8T is indeed a quick engine. it lacks the linear power of the vr6, but when the turbo kicks in, it is undoubtedly quick. i have never riden in a csvt, but in comparison to my vr6 (LIGHTLY modded) i can hang with the stock 1.8T in the 1/4. past that, and the turbo pulls on me hard.

I test drove an Audi A4 1.8T (basically the same as the VW 1.8T) before I bought my SVT. The car roade smooth and had decent pick up, but I would definitely say the Contour would win.

There is a guy that comes to our 1/8 mile track all the time with what I think is a golf, not sure how it compares to the jetta. He runs 8.8. He has a chip, intercooler, piping, and intake.

The Golf is definitely lighter.

8.8's should be well into the 13's. That's a quick little Golf.

I saw a Jetta 1.8t running 14.5's at around 95mph consistantly last year with just a chip and intake. Nice rides.

Apparently those chips do ALOT for the 1.8T.
