I just bought a 99 SE with the stock CD player and the previous owner had a power amp hook up in the trunk with the RCA's and
power hookups. So I'm wondering if they used the stock CD player with their setup ?

Probably. They make a high level (speaker wire) to low level (RCA) adapter that he probably used.

If this is the case the sound he was getting was decent at best. After I replaced the stock CD player I wanted to boot it to the moon. The SQ in my system increased 10fold after installing the Pioneer HU

By the way I also bypassed the stock amp, it sucks azz as well.
