Hi, I'm new here...

My 96' Mystique has a funny problem with the driver side power window.

If I press "down", it doesn't do anything. But if I press "up", it goes all the way down, then gets stuck there.

If I press "up" while it's stuck down there, it just starts making this clicking noise.

Any idea what could be causing this?

Are there any electronics in there to detect when the window is down, etc?

I'm not sure, but I think the driver side window had that "one-touch" function...

Thanks in advance!

Your window regulator (the mechanism that makes the window go up and down) is broken. It needs to be replaced.

That's not good news...

Do I have to replace the whole assembly?

Just remembered, the problem started out intermittent... It would get stuck, but if I banged on the inside of the door , it would work OK again... Weird...

i have been working on cars since the late 1960's.. when the window would not move on the passenger side of my 96 contour this is what i did: go to autozone and buy the Haynes Manual for the contour... without it i could never have guess how to get the window regulator out of the door, nor how to take the glass out or even how to take the trim covering off the inside of the door, nor the small triagular piece inside the door so you could get the glass out so you can get to the window regulator.. its not like the older ford vehicles.... completely different in almost all ways.. so the $12.00 i spent for the haynes book save me alot of time and money and the part cost me about $120 for a new window regulator at the dealership....
you might not have these problems like i had and others suggested...but in my case it was the cable in the door regulator that came out of its plastic case and was getting caught on the side of the plastic with the frayed cable... i tried to just replace the cable and have the tools and know how to do it,, but could not get just the cable.. you had to buy the complete window regulator.....
