Hey Guys,

I'm new to the site, but I have a question.

I recently bought a 95 Mystique LS and had the wire harness recall repaired. Upon completion, the dealership said that the alternator needed to be replaced and they quoted me $411. I figured I would do it myself. I got it out and replaced the alternator and found the battery light to still be on.
The megafuse is/was the problem, and the original alternator was fine.

Do you think I can get anything from the dealership, since I paid them for a tuneup and an hour's worth of diagnostics only to have them tell me that my good alternator was bad?

Joe

I sure would try.

Try the diplomatic way first.

if does not work,
I would write a letter to manager of dealership with cc to Ford customer service.

Dunno ... how much money are we talking about ? Usually they charge less than $100 for a diagnostic. The diagnostic was kinda correct though, the guy found a fault in the charging system, I guess he was not very thorough in his diagnostic to determine the exact root of the problem (would have changed the alt like you did and found out the problem was the fuse and charged you for the alt anyway).

just my 2 cents,

It was incomplete diagnosis. You should be able to get the diagnostic charges back. It would not hurt to ask for the cost of the alternator as well, but you may have a harder time getting that.

Call the Service Manager (not the Service Advisor that helped you) and just explain exactly what you told us. You paid for a diagnosis, depended on it, and it was wrong.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
