I have a Denon DCT-950R, great sounding head unit, unfortunately it is dead and the local tech (who I don't really trust) told me the processor is dead. They want $250+ to fix it, not worth it to me. Anyone had any experiences with this deck?

If you haven't already, unplug the H/U from the electrical supply and check to make sure the power wires and the ground connection is good and that power is going to the terminals on the H/U. If all this is true, then there is something internal on the H/U that is screwed up. You may like your sound with the one you have now, but for $250 I think you could purchase another decent H/U.

Not a power problem to the deck unfortunately. The unit will not power up. I'll take some input on what is the cleanest sounding HU out there now. I spent $550 on the Denon 5 years ago. Looking to keep in that price range.

With a 550.00 budget, you will have a huge choice of very high quality HUs. I would shop around on eBay for the Sony CDX-C90. IMO, it is the best sounding HU available. They cost more than your budget allows but if you are patient you may find one.

A much cheaper and very good sounding HU is the Nakamichi CD-45Z.

I used to have that same Denon in my old Audi and it had electrical problems (lights burned out) that would have cost the same $250. I would just buy something new.
