What should the no load idle speed be on a 95 Zetec engine? I just replaced the timing belt and discovered that the exhaust camshaft was out of index. I loosened and adjusted the cam sprockets etc. Everything is now as is should be. Idle speed in drive stopped is 750 rpm (good). However, idle speed in park is about 1300 rpm per the vehicle tach. Is this normal (too high)? If not can this be adjusted by the FOMOCO dealer?

Just went out to my car and started it, 700 while in gear, and 1000 while in Park. I have a 96 Zetec.

I get around 650, but in Drive im gettin around 500-550...

Mine idles between 800-900 rpms.

Thanks all for the info. 750 rpm in gear and A/C compressor on is great!! I used to have the 500 rpm engine dies scenario. Now that I have decided to keep the car, it in some ways reminds me of the air cooled VW's of my younger years. Kind of a cult following. The more work I do on this vehicle, the more I am getting into it.
