No, it isn't the same ... for OSX, it is cmd+shift+3. You'll hear a little camera click sound, and then a PDF file will appear on your desktop. Open it up in Preview, go to File-->Export and convert it to a JPG so it can be linked on CEG.
Something ultra cool, cmd+shift+4 allows you to crop in only what you want to take (be it a couple of windows, an amusing desktop icon, or whatever) ... just press that and then drag to form a box. Upon releasing the mouse button a PDF file will appear on your desktop of what you selected. This extra is similar to Windows' "alt+prtscrn" function but a bit more flexible; as the Windows counterpart only takes a picture of the topmost window without allowing you to crop anything out (without using an editor of course).
