i'm trying to remove the lower pinch bolt as part of the strut removal howto, but the bolt won't come out even though the nut on the other side has been removed. i hate to crosspost but i am in the middle of it so a quick response is what i'm after.

If you have the nut off just use a punch and hammer out the bolt from the nuts side. The size is a T55, but the bolt is not threaded into the knuckle.

i've hit it hard enough to deform the nut i put on there to protect the bolt threads. i don't know if a punch would be any better. i think i'm gonna have to go buy the torx bit and try to give it a twist to break the tension. its really seized in there.

Thanks for the quick response. NOw I know what to get!

Use a punch to knock it out. Buy new bolt grade 8 at Home Depot. Dirt is probably stuck on the threads in the part that is exposed centered over the ball joint. I bought new pinch bolts.....

I needed new ones too, got a new set from the dealer. Didn't have the 'tour ones, but the Taurus ones are the same without the torx head (they have a regular). Probably even cheaper at Home Depot though!

I may try to get a real punch and try it like everyone has suggested. I've also got a torch and I'm going to try to heat it up and see it that will work. What do you think?

my buddy came over and, with his superman strength, was able to get the bolt out. thanks you for all of the helpful info though, now I'll know what bolts to get since he destroyed them in the process, just as you guys predicted. Thanks again!
