you guys, I was planning on putting in an intake for my svt. most of my friends say to leave the stock intake and just change the air filter to K&N, that way it'll remain cold air, I'm not even sure if its cold air or not, but anyways, what do you guys say? should I put in the K&N and keep it stock or get an intake and if so, what kinds are there? which will be best because I'm all about the sound.

I was wondering about this.

I've hearda lot of reports that swapping out the stock airbox with a CAI cone will result in heatsoak and loss of power.

I'll probably just change the filter to a K&N as well and keep the stock airbox.

But first things first, time to buy a CBR 600

yes and no....a lot of poeple with the Stock SVT intake like it cause it does keep it cooler.

But if you going to go after market you can make your own heat sheild out of A small waste basket, or somehting which a lot of poeple ahve done, and it ended up working better for them.

Personaly i feel the best way is after market Intake with your own custom heat sheild made of rubber or plastic...The Svt one is too restrictive...especialy if you oepn it up with a full exahust system.

but thats my opinion.

EDIT:::: GranndMasterKahn makes a good quality CAI for our cars...talk to him.

Has anybody actually done any dyno readings or CFM readings with aftermarket vs stock intakes ?

From the looks of it, the stock intake doesn't look THAT restrictive, and I have my doubts that the SVT engine suffocates at the higher revs.

No, nobody has done air readings. If they had, then nobody would run a K&N filter. LOL! The SVT intake setup is definately not restrictive at all. I mean with a paper filter as well. ON V6 models, the mass airflow sensor is too close to the filter to use anything that is oiled for filtration. All that happens when you do use a K&N is that you bogg your MAF with oil and get erradic readings. Changing from a panel filter to a conical filter though does help performance and airflow. Thus the reason why Ford Special Vehicle Team decided to use a conical filter instead of a flat panel filter. Go paper and keep the original stock CAI. Maybe remove the snorkel. But that's it. The thing that would make the most difference is if you could build a prototype of the stock SVT airbox out of aluminum and then Jet Hot coat it. This would definately help to add cooler air. And if you use plastic, then use one of these.

Keep the stock SVT set-up, and get an AFE drop in filter. Best Mod I have done. I've gone back and forth between the AFE and the SHO-Shop K&N w/heat sheild, and back and forth between the CEG standard K&N 3530 and the AFE...and there just is no gain from the bigger filter, at least with mildly modded E0s. My mods are:

Optimized TB
Optimized stock Y
2.5" mandrel bent exhaust
No main cat...test pipe installed

The AFE felt like a big step up from the paper filter. The K&N 3530 felt slower everywhere in the RPM range...but especially down low. And yes..I've reset the PCM everytime.
