Hi everyone, this is my first time posting. I just bought my contour it's a 95 SVT 3.5L. Seem to be having a problem starting it and I think a faulty muffler is the problem, anyone have any suggestions on what else it might be?

because it's not starting, the problem is NOT at the end of the exhaust system. that is the LAST place it would be. starter? battery? spark plugs? could be a number of things. does the car make a noise when you turn the key? what kind of noise? elaborate more on the problem. describe what is happening and don't mind the other guys here.

That doesn't exist. So it makes me believe 1) you're joking and 2) you're lying. Thats all. But if you're serious then yeah you probably need to explain the situation a bit better. Because your muffler wouldn't deal too much with your car starting. Like the previous poster said, check your battery, spark plugs and starter.

I have the same problem with my 95 Contour that i just bought 3 months ago..Mine just sounds like its out of gas. On some 95 models there was a recall for under the hood wiring harness.. check the wires to see if they are cracking and breaking. Mine were so bad the covering was crumbling off of the wires leaving some bare. unfortunately i am over the coverded mileage so FORD will not fix it, but will do repairs for the low fee of $2800.00.YEAH RIGHT like i can afford that. bottom line for me is., I got reemed!!
coverage is 100,000 miles or 10 years, which ever comes first.

Welcome to CEG! Both of you!

There is almost always some hope.

The worst of the wiring can be repaired by electrical tape.

Give details of your problems, we cannot read minds!

Thank you Roger
I dont think mine could be repaired with just electrical tape, however if you say so cuz i know very little about my car. I do know that its not getting me to work lol, it died after going over a speedbump and never started again which really stinks cuz i loved my car. I paid $1200.00 for it and paid insurance for a year, now i have to junk it which doesn't have me feeling too well. Know anyone selling aftermarket wiring harnesses?

In general, the wiring harness suffered it's worst damage in the bundle that feeds the injectors and TPS. With the intake off they can be re-insulated. Damage to the crank and cam sensor wiring is even easier. Rarely is a whole harness needed. In fact, replacing the harness usually causes a bunch of other problems. All bare wiring should be wrapped up and then fuses checked. If some part of the system still does not work, diagnose and fix as needed.

It is probably just one wire causing the engine not to start. I hate to see a car junked because of one little problem.

If you really want to get rid of it, Post here first. Someone may want it or some parts like the trunk lid, hood, door, fender, etc...
