I've seen two ITRs at KCIR getting ~14.6s@96mph with pretty decent 60 foots. These cars weren't gutted and the only visible underhood mods I saw were CAIs, header, and shiny good sounding exhausts. I guess they could have had cams, but I've heard B18s with cams and they're pretty lopey. The way these ITRs sounded lead me to believe they were not running cams. Both ITRs were owned by older gentlemen who definitely had the cars set up for auto-X. From what I've read, the ITR is the benchmark for the best handling FWD chassis.

It used to be until the Mazdaspeed Protege. According to SCC Magazine. The MSP knocked it off the block.

I have looked and I can't find it. I'll find it soon, I printed it out a few months ago so I may have it somewhere. If so I'll scan it and post it here. This is all I could find of what SCC thinks of the car.... mazda page I am sure they said that it was the best handing FWD vehicle they have driven and specifically said it knocked the type r off the block.

Oh I don't doubt for a minute SCC said it but that's like saying a "Ricer said yellow stickers add 25HP" and then taking their word for it.
SCC has no credibility based on their dubious history of backing whomever pays the most for advertising...
Go to a major SCCA event or forum of the like and see what is generally seen as the best FWD platform.

As much as I agree with you, the MSP isn't that bad at all.

Now that you guys brought it up, I think the MSP does hold the title for the best handling FWD car on the road. I know I read that in SCC, but I've got a Car & Driver and a Motor Trend proclaiming the same thing. I know that the MSP generated both better slalom and skid pad numbers than the ITR, but I do remember the mags saying the ITR is more compliant and forgiving. One thing to consider is that the MSP does come with more aggressive tires than the ITR (even though the ITR tires we're bad at all). Chassis wise, I think the ITR is a better overall competition car and that's why you see then tearing it up. The ITR seams are welded which means a super stiff chassis and the B18C5 is more than capable of serious reliable 4-banger power. If I had to choose, it would be the ITR. It might handle fractionally worse, but it has quite a bit more potential.

You can make any car fast, boosting an LX teg isn't really that impressive.

I'd have to see that info with my own eyes. It's tough to imagine a 4 door car doing better than an ITR, even if it is an MPS or MP3. I'd be more inclined to accept it if you were talking about the Celica GTS or something.
