This has nothing to do with audio, but you guys are the electronics freaks, so i figure this would be a good place to post...
I have a battery disconnect on my 64 Cutlass... i'm thinking about wiring up a very rudimentary car alarm that would sound if a complete circuit is made. The plan is to simply wire in a siren and a switch, and connect it to the battery terminals. The switch is off when the cars running, then when i turn it off, i disconnect the battery and flip the switch on. If someone reconnects the battery without turning off the switch, circuit is completed and the siren sounds.
question 1) am i a retard for even considering such a thing?
question 2) do i need any sort of resistors or anything to run a siren off of my car battery? I figure it should just be a simple wiring job.
question 3) can i just buy everything i need at my local radio shack?
Advice is much appreciated. Thanks!!

First, I think the Pistons will win in 5 games.
Second, what was your question again?

I would just get a el cheap-o alarm.. You could do it with a few relays but as stated before if something opens a door and such then nothing will happen. Plus no remote.. easiest way would be just add starter kill to your ride with a relay. Cut the starter wire and put one side to 87 and the other to 30. then splice into the parking light or any 12 volt when switched wire and run to 86 and ground 85.. THen when the parking lights are turned on it energizes the coil closing the contacts between the two starter wires.
If the parking light is not on then you cannot start the car. Thats the simplest cheapest way to make it a tad difficult to steal a car if thats what your trying to accomplish..

I don't care if they can open the doors or not, my door locks barely work as it is, and i keep NOTHING of value in the car... remember this is my 64 Olds with an AM radio.
The whole idea was to have a way to set off some sort of alarm if someone other than me reconnects the battery... they cant start the car if its disconnected, and if its reconnected without disabling the siren, then attention is drawn.
I might try your idea Steeda, but i'm a bit confused by the 85,86,30 business.... care to explain?

After PerusIng your planS a liTtle bit mOre. I actually really like your idea. CoNSidering you are a Pacers fan, that says quite a bit. Let me think about whether anything other than basic wiring would be necessary.

Lakers get the trophy before the finals start, no matter who they play. Pistons will give them a run though.
No, I'm not a Laker fan. My team got swept by the Spurms. I just want to see Karl Malone get a ring a bow out, don't you?

I hope that Karl Malone never gets a ring. The dirtiest player to ever play the game deserves nothing.

Ditto... I kinda hope the Lakers lose just so he doesn't get to bow out gracefully.
