My brakes are very noisy. Took them to get checked out, guy says they are like new. If they are like new, then why are they so damn noisy?

I bought my Contour back in November. I don't know when they we're last changed.

Any suggestions on how to get the noise to stop?

They are squealing. LOUD!
It sounds like it is comming from my rear brakes.

drums?

if so they are DIRTY.

take off the wheel, pound on the drum HARD with either a hammer wrapped in a rag or a rubber mallet. then take off off the drum (the drum may require force, dont be afraid to smak it with a hammer to break it loose)

all the drt that was jammed up in those brakes will come out and all will be well. if you want to me really sure, use an air compressor (and wear a face mask) to blow out all the brake dust....

If it's coming from the front, you can put on some anti-squeal gunk. Rears, blow the dirt out of them and see if that helps. You might also have the drum turned. The drums may be brazed, and will always squeal unless you turn them.

No, I meant brazed from dictionary.com
brazed

Braze \Braze\, v. i. [imp. & p. p. Brazed; p. pr. & vb. n. Brazing.] [F. braser to solder, fr. Icel. brasa to harden by fire. Cf. Brass.] 1. To solder with hard solder, esp. with an alloy of copper and zinc; as, to braze the seams of a copper pipe.

2. To harden. ``Now I am brazes to it.'' --Shak.
