Be careful and don't look directly at the valve. Last time I did this I had my face near it, looking at it, and it shot out and hit me right in the face : ( Not fun to get out of one's eyes, let me assure you.

I would make sure you pull the fuse before you start the car. Changing the filter was very easy...I had no spillage.

When you're all done, prime the fuel pump by turning the key to the "ON" position then "OFF" 5 times. I always do this when changing the fuel filter. I don't know if it's an old wive's tale or not, but I never have any problems starting the car when I'm all done.

ford cd manual says to relieve the fuel pressure before doing any fuel work. it says the pressure remains pressurized long after the ignition is turned off.
steps it lists are: disconnect neg battery remove air intake accordian tube remove shraeder valve cap turn the tap fully counterclockwise to relieve the pressure
can the cabin fuel cutoff switch be manually turned off or can it only be turned on when its forced off like in an accident?

the haynes manual says to not really follow fords way via the shraeder valve. haynes says run the car and either pull the fuse14 or flip the cutoff switch and let the car die out. then turn the engine over once or twice on the starter to ensure all pressure is released, then switch off the ignition.
how do u run the starter to try to turn the engine over with the key already in the on ignition?

i just got under my car and pulled the hoses off the filter, then put a new one on... after i tried turning it over like 3 times it started right up... and only like a half cup of fuel came out including when i dumped the filter into a coffee can, (wich i used to catch the small) amount left in the lines

you are reading the haynes book incorrectly: you either take the fuse out for the fuel pump or remove the wires from the safety gasoline cut off swith or turn it off... then you try to start the car and let it run out of gas and when it kills you try starting it up twice more..it will not start but this will burn up the gas thats already in the engine/fuel line... this relieves the pressure as the pump is not working with the fuse out or the gas cut off switch defeated..... does it make sense now??? forget about what they say with the key.. you are only trying to start up the car to burn off the gas thats alread in the gas line....No more will come in th line as the pump does not work now... hope thi helps...

This is how I, as well as many others, remove the pressure from the line before changing the filter.
I do it the same way and I use the same filter! I also do it the same way on my Audi with the purolator filter. I belive this is the best way. The only fuel that comes out is what is in the filter itself. And he is right about not starving the pump.

Ok now this method sounds easiest to me, so of course I like it lol, but tell me your opinion on this. I had a friend tell me once who is ASE certified, that running a car empty can be bad since the fuel has lubrication properties for the fuel system. Make sense or sound like giberish to you guys????
I've gotta do this today so I'm gonna use the valve on the fuel rail line, but i'm curious to get all your input.
