Good point Viss, although I don't entirely agree. My whole thing, if anyone missed the other thread where I talked about it, is that we owe it to our nation for the citizenship that we take for granted. Another large factor for me being probably one of the first volunteers if this draft got close to being needed, is that I'd much rather see myself going instead of my friends and family that I care so much for. And I do agree that it sucks that rich, white men are risking all these young soldier's lives, even if it's not for a just cause, but as much as I disagree with this war, I am still patriotic and faithful to my other Americans.

I completely agree with you Viss.
If I was going to be drafted, I'd just join the National Gaurd, fly airplanes for a little bit, and then go AWOL until I get into politics. I've seen it work before!

OTOH, I wouldn't have a problem fighting a war I considered worthwhile.
my dad died so you could express that opinion...

I have the utmost repect for my country's soldiers, especially those who have fallen. My opinion on the Iraq conflict does not diminish that.

Your dad died, and my uncles died so that we could have the freedom to criticize our country. Without citizen criticism our country wouldnt be what it is today. You have to understand that Viss' decision to support/not support the war is just an expression of his love for country. He feels that it is not best for our country to be in this war, as do I. I only differ, in that I would accept the draft, and Viss would dodge it to express his distaste for this "war on terrorism"

War is not good for any country but us being the world peace keepers requires us to go to war more often than any other country.
Iraq has been a debacle for the UN and US for well over a decade. If we didn't do something now, we'd have to do something later.
I'm glad to have a president with balls and some moral integrity, whether I agree with it or not. As for political integrity, outside of Jessie Ventura, I have you to see one with much. I don't agree with his anti-gay marriage stance of his allowance of the FCC to run rampant.
I don't agree with politicains that say that those who are against Operations Iraqi Freedom are anti-Military. The military does what it's told and deserve our respect.

That is how I feel. I would be one of the first to go. Plato brought the point about family to my attention and the people I love. I would much rather it be me then them and I know that it could be both but if there are a lot of people that feel the way I do or plato does then...

Dont get me wrong, i would fight/defend this country if i thought it just. I would fight for better schools, lower gas prices, to keep this counrty free. Stuff like that i would fight for but not for Iraq. This war should never have happend, we could have put a billion dollar award on oh sama and Hussian and saved our selves lives and a ton of money in the long run. Just my 2 cents.

if there was a draft i would not be happy but id still try my best. But in regards to the whole iraq thing i believe that Thomas Paine said it best with "If there must be trouble, let it be in my day, that my child may have peace."
