I used to have a 95 GL with 80k original miles on it but my daughter totaled it last year. So, we got her a 98 Zetec and it just hit 100k.
Now I'm ready to get my thrill on. I can't decide if I should find a 98+ V6 with a MTX or hunt for an SVT. I am on a budget as far as a purchasing a car goes but I am willing to make upgrades in steps.
I have been looking in the archives and reading recent discussions and I really haven't seen a post like mine.
Any answers will be appreciated. I'm addicted to the CEG now eek

Get the SVT.

I only wish my parents had gotten an SVT instead of an SE when they got it. If you don't you'll regret it latter.

Get the SVT... AND FIX IT UP!!! no really, get the svt if for nothing else than the unique-ness of it.. in a few years they will be collectors edition cars, there are just so few of them made..
I just got my svt a few months ago and I don't EVER want to get rid of it.. EVER, even if it sits under a tarp for 10 years, I plan on never selling that car.. just cause its so HOT!!!

Yeah I got the CEG addiction too. I just wanted to answer a few questions on the Zetec now I have three of these cars. It gets really bad. You might want to stop while you can.

As far as the SE/SVT debate. It depends. If I had it to do again I might find a used 95 SE and do a 3.0/Bulldog Conversion. It would be more cost effective if that's your eventual plans anyway. Plus there are always the insurance bonuses but since you have a duaghter who is driving, I assume that's a non-issue for you.

It really depends on what you want. If you can find a good price on an SVT then get it. Otherwise start chasing down an MTX 95SE

Most definitely an SVT. I have a 99 SE along with my SVT but they are just not the same car. No matter what you do to it it still won't be an SVT. These are special cars!! Everyone should at least experience the thrill of them. However, if you have your mind set on a SE Sport, mine is for sale. Well that is my $0.02.

I have found two or three SVT candidates. One has 18k on it and it's going for 14,500. I have a spouse induced limit of around 11,500-12,000.
This car is for me, not the daughter.

Neither. Get a '96-'97 SE, throw a 3 liter in it with all of the mods for less money and be the envy on most on this board. Call me when you're ready. wink

I agree. Pre-98 SE and fix it up. Those cars are cheap with 5-speeds now. Just a matter of finding a good one.
