I didn't see anything just like this in the archives, so hoping maybe someone can offer some ideas:
I have a 99 SVT with about 55,000 well-maintained miles on it.
For the past three or four weeks, the car's usual idle speed has dropped to about 600rpm, and two or three times a day, when I come to a stop, it will stall.
The car always fires up again right away, and runs great otherwise. No codes visible, and the dealership has been unable to do anything other than "re-flash" the software.
Anyone have any thoughts on this?
thanks, steener

Idle Air Control probably. You can try to clean it before you replace it.

Mine was doing the same thing. IAC valve solved the stalling, but your idling low could be something else.. mine was a clogged cat.

Is this something that will show up in a diagnosis, say at the dealer, even if it is not exhibiting the symptoms?

If your question involves the dealer, the answer is always either: no, bad, or expensive. General rule. If you're stalling, it sounds like the IAC valve which is easy and cheap to replace or clean.. I'd say do that and see if you still have the rough idle, then go from there.

Agreed. If you take it to the dealer, they will charge you at least $40 to hook it up and say "nope, can't see anything wrong." Or, if by some miracle they do agree that the IAC is failing, they'll charge you way too much for labor. I just changed the IAC on my Sport on Sunday. It was easier than an oil change and took only about 20 minutes. What cost me about $60 for the part could've cost me $150+ at the dealership.

You can get a non-ford part for even cheaper, too. Replacing IAC valve is easy easy easy.. even I could do it.
