I want to get married to my dog. I love her. Who cares if we get married, its none of your business.
Feel the same way now, or did you "tolerant" hippies suddenly think that idea was completely out of line? Not so tolerant now that the idea goes against your personal beliefs, now are you? What makes that taboo and illegal, while gay marriages aren't? Don't tell me they're completely different, the idea is the same.
As soon as your dog can sign a marriage license, reaches the legally defined age of majority, and can give legal consent we'll talk.
Until that point you're being a friggin' idiot if you think the two are even close to one another.
If you're going to come up with some slippery sloped example, at least use a Sibling or Parent. At least there the lines start becoming a little blurry. Using a Dog or some other inanimate object that cannot give legal consent to attempt to prove whatever 'point' you have is just ignorant.

Hell, whats next, transvestites in the olympics? Oh wait, thats allowed now too... (different topic all together)
But that aside, I think there is a far worse issue with the gay marriage discussion. That is the creation of laws from the bench. When a law can't be passed by popular vote, which is typically the case with issues like gay marriage, abortion, etc. the affected group will get the judical branch to in effect make laws that suit their needs. This is further helped by the appointment of liberal minded judges to high courts.
I think that we need to make the judicial branch more accountable for what it does from the safety of life, or long term appointments to office. How, honestly I don't know. But I do think it is something that needs to be looked into; though I really don't think anything like this will ever happen, they are far too content with the power they are giving themselves. -Nick
The whole abortion issue is way beyond this so please dont bring Another topic into this already mixed up thread.. Lets keep it somewhat on track.... But on a side note.. Until you can have a baby who are you to tell a woman when and where to create one... I do not believe in abortion.. I am against it but Until you give up your body for 9 months...morning sickness bed rest, preclampsa (sp), Dead beat dads, or being the only person responsible to take care of that baby phyically and emotionally Or push out a 9 pound kid... grr nevermind you wont get it anyway
Back on track... Your can have your opinon no matter how ignorant it is... Who the are you to tell anyone their life is immoral? Dont be P.C but there is a way to be decent about the subject.. You make gay people sound like animals.. Like they are not contributing members of society...Like I said before... If gay people getting married makes your marriage and less you have bigger issues to address.....
Nowhere did I try to bring out the abortion arguement, I mearly used it as an example for how people use the courts to get their beliefs into law.
So, you like to tell me how you can sit there and call my opinion ignorant and my moral beliefs are wrong, but then turn right around and tell me that I should respect other people's decisons and moral beliefs???
Nowhere in my post did I call them anything less than human, certainly not animals. I don't agree with thier decisions based on the fact that I believe it to be immoral, and biologically wrong too. Please show me where in my post I compared them to animals or said they weren't contributing to society??? And also show me where I said that my marriage, when it happens, will be any less value because gays have the right to marriage??? I have no issues of my own that I need to address, however I do have my opinions and moral beliefs, none of which can be considered ignorant.
You do more bad for your cause by calling people that are against gay marriage ignorant.
And....

I agree with you 100% PackRat. It truely is the ones that preach tolerance for their choices and opinions, but show absolutely no tolerance for those that dissent.
I watched a debate either last night or a couple nights ago, with a preacher and a gay rights activist. The preacher made his arguement, like has been stated here, that he is not opposed to the gays getting their relationship the same benefits as married couples; like rights to the will, taxes, etc. However, he said, marriage should be for a man and a woman like God had intended it.
The gay activist not only cut him off every couple seconds, but her response to his reasons was that he was intollerant and something to the point that his thinking needs to catch up with the year 2004. Now tell me, where is the tollerance and acceptance in her mind?
I recently read Michael Savage's latest book, The Enemy Within. While I didn't agree with some of what he said, he definately enlightened me into whats going on with activist groups of all types. Bringing his point into a very condensed thought was this. He feels, and I agree, that activist groups such as the gay and lesbian activists are not trying to get themselves equal rights and place in society, rather they are trying to make themselves out to be higher than the people that aren't like them. That they won't be happy until they are viewed in society as being better than everyone else, which would basically lead to them being able to craft laws that would benefit them. Now, like I said, this is very condensed, and he has pleanty of proof to help his point. I won't debate this subject at all, so don't bother. If you want to see his, and in turn most of why I believe he is right (I do disagree with some things he said) you can pick up both his books. -Nick

You agree to ban a law you dont agree with? Isnt that trying to use the courts to get your beliefs made into laws? I dont think your ignorant but in this subject you might be missguided... You should have your moral beliefs but not condemn other in the process... I didnt mean to come accross attacking your beliefs but preaching intolerance for this issues is ridiculous... Why the hell do i care if two people want to make a committment to one another? Increase the rate of divorce??? Thats shot to hell anyway... Maybe the idea of two men comitting their lives together doesnt bother me as much... They were going to be together regardless.... How many gay people do you even associate with? How many do you "hang out" with? Quote:
I move to change the name of Massachusetts to Homochusetts.
And to the people lamenting the intolerance. [censored] you. I'm sick of being required to "tolerate" every freak of nature that comes down the pike. Next thing you know we'll have to "tolerate" pedophiles, necrophiles and zoophiles as "life choices".
If you agree with that 100% than you have way more problems than i thought... Gay marriage is gonna legalize pedophiles, necrophiliacs and zoophilia... Umm how about NO...Calling some a freak of nature isnt degrading?
I didnt imply YOUR marriage simply others that believe their vows mean less because everyone can take them...
Im not coming here to start a flame war but go meet a couple of gay men that have been together for 50 years when it probably wasnt even legal.. That they couldnt be the people they were in fear of being discrimnated against.. Regardless of what i believe or anyones else.. Gay people will still be gay..

Ah, cant we all just agree that who the [censored] cares?
Everyone always has some [censored] argument..... Yet, the best one is: let the [censored] do what they [censored] want, and they wont be [censored] bothering us! I hear [censored] all the time "Gays should be allowed to marry." Should they? I dont know... Should we make a big [censored] deal over it? No, its a [censored] useless argument... im sick and tired of hearing about this [censored]...

It's when those people want their opinions to become laws that tolerant people become intolerant.
You can hate gay marriage all you want. That's your opinion. But when you no longer just hate it but you want it banned entirely and make efforts to do so, then it is no longer just an opinion.
You can tolerate homosexuality and be totally intolerate of discrimination based on sexual-orientation. That's what you are seeing here.
There's always a line to be drawn at tolerance. For every person and for every subject that line is drawn somewhere else. That's why we have a democracy.

I am not taking anything you say as a personal attack, but you keep missing my point. I do agree with that statement 100%, I am tired of being told I have to tollerate something I don't agree with. I really am tired with the ultra-tolerance that is being preached by some in this country today. We should not have to tollerate something that we disagree with. I am in no way for violance or any other physical harm towards anyone for their decisions in life.
The ammount that I hang out with or know has absolutely nothing to do with how I feel about it. But since you brought it up, I know quite a few. I was born and raised in NY and was around it alot more than you might think. Now that I am in OK, my girlfriend is from TX and used to work at a hair salon where evey man there but 1 was gay. I was there on more than one occasion, and was just fine with them.
When something is wrong, it is wrong. But today, nothing is 'wrong' because we all have to tollerate it, which is the fist step in acceptance, then normalization. As much as you want to believe that homosexuality is okay, there are those that won't agree just as strongly. Why are the nay-sayers any less right than you?
I didn't condemn them for their beliefs, just the fact that they want it legalized under the name marriage, and that it wont stop there; they will want more and more rights ABOVE whats granted to straight couples. Mark my words in your memory and you can come back here when it happens... Just like when the whole attack on cigarettes and guns happened I said (not on here), whats next, are they going to sue fast food for making them fatas$es, I was right. People aren't happy just getting what they deserve, they want more than they deserve.
And its true, we do need to draw a line in the dirt, or else everyone will start wanting the same priviliages granted to them. I know its becomming clichéd, but what about when people actually do want to start with the f'ed up marriages, like family members. Who are we to tell them that they can't love eachother and express that love in marriage? Maybe the gays do deserve the same things granted to straight married couples, I don't believe they do. Getting rid of the whole moral argument completely, you can not possibly argue the fact that it goes against nature and biology, a science. Taking the pure scientific stance on the issue, an organism's sole purpose for being is to reproduce and keep the species alive. How can gays do that?
But I am digressing, this is not an argument against gays in here.
And again, I don't believe that my marrige will be lessened by gays and lesbians being married. However, if we allow everyone that wants to get married and is willing to sue someone, to be married, then there is no point in being married.
And no, gay marriage will not 100% for sure bring the legalization of pedophiles, necrophiliacs and zoophiliacs, but it gives all these freaks a leg to stand on in the courts now. Now they can argue that, "hey you gave these same rights to gays under the belief that everyone deserves equal rights and protection under the law, then so do we!" If the courts do indeed follow their past decisions as they are supposed to, they will have no choice but to legalize everyone that wants it, and isn't breaking the law otherwise.

Of course you can argue that fact. Hell, there's not even anything to argue.
Homosexual and Asexual animals are created in nature all the time, and that's an outright fact.
As animal populations in regions increase, instances of Homosexuality and Asexuality also increase. It's Nature's method of population control.
If that is "an organism's sole purpose" than why are millions of people born every year without the physical ability to reproduce? Do they no longer serve a purpose in life?
