Yeah, until you see what happens when someone crashes.

Wear gear. It helps. A lot.

If I didn't have my leathers, helmet, gloves and boots on when I went down, I'd need skin grafts, reconstructive surgery on my ankle and possibly some plastic surgery on my face.

I walked away with only a bruise on my arm, not a scratch on me.

But it sure as hell is fun.

And my pig-of-a-bike with its triple nets me 35-45mpg, depending on what mood I'm in.

Thats why you buy a Honda. You won't have to spend big cash on maintenance items. Change the oil regularly and you'll be fine. yeah Tires aren't cheap but not everyone needs sticky race tires on the street. Pick up a used F4I or F4 and you will have saved alot right there. Just my .02

Why a Honda? Any jap bike will do.

What about insurance?

Simply put, buying a motorcycle just to save gas is NOT worth it. However, buying a motorcycle for fun definitely is.

Right, but the gas mileage is something else I plan to have as a reason to get my wife to OK a bike purchase.

I haven't checked insurance prices yet. I only had liability on my FZR (it was paid off), and it cost just over $100 a year. I'm hoping that now that I'm married with children and about to be 30, I could get a decent price for full coverage. I only wish my insurance carrier offered MC insurance as it would surely be cheaper since I carry my homeowners, auto, and life with them.

I use state farm for everything and I only pay $58 a month for full coverage on a 600 CBR with a $250 deductible(I am 24, no kids). My friend has a GSXR 1100 and pays $40 with a $500 deductible, he is 27 married with 1 kid.

Cannot beat the gas milage. I am moving 3 miles from work, I think I will be able to go a while before filling up a tank on the bike.

I'm looking at buying a 2001 F4i, or a 2004 Daytona 600, or an 03 YZF600R now. Make sure if you do buy a bike, take classes because they will lower your insurance and make you a safer rider. I took mine last weekend, and passed the field and written test with flying colors. This wont be the last class I take either. Be safe and smart, because stupid hurts.
