First of all, the engine is running extremely rich. It constantly backfires. The engine runs alright and holds an idle fine when cold but after it runs for about 15 minutes and warms up, it has a hard time holding an idle. I constantly have to keep giving it gas when the clutch is in just to keep it running. There is absolutely no power either. Im guessing I'm pushing 50-60 hp tops, which is partly due to the compression, lack of tune, and only 4 psi. While cruising around town friday there was constant surging under light acceleration. During this surging phase, even if i put the gas pedal to the floor, RPM's dont raise or anything. I just keep going along at the same speed and RPM. It's as if throttle position is irrelevant. Eventually the car will kick back into "normal" mode and it will have power again, but this alternates back and forth. Only thing ive guessed is that I know that timing has been pulled from the chip from Street Flight. Perhaps, once the engine warms up, more timing is pulled and the engine just starts to run like crap? Im sure running rich doesnt help either. Any thoughts from anyone?

Just a guess but could it be the Throttle Position Sensor is bad? May be after the engine bay gets warm the TPS acts funny.

What MAF are you running, that would explain a bad idle and also an extremely rich condition....possibly once it starts idling liuke crap pull the plug to the maf and see if it smooths out.

Im running Tom's 80mm MAF. I bought it off from him when he sold his old 3.0L. He gave me the maf transfer function for it, so I doubt thats whats causing it to act funny.

However did you do the conversion from what injectors the MAF is calibrated to verses what injectors you are using.
Didn't you use larger injectors?
Have you carefully cleaned the MAF element?

Tom was nice enough to plug and chug the new numbers for me after I bought the MAF.
I havent cleaned the MAF, but it was very clean when i received it. Perhaps I'll take a look at that.

Could it possible be at a certian temp range the "fire" is being blown out? Maybe check gap on plugs. Most likley not it but worth a shot.

If you find out what the cause of your rich condition is let me know, I've been battling the same deal for well over a year and pretty much parked the car till I find the patients to continue on it.
