I'm looking to replace the **** OEM stereo with the following

Blaupunkt San Fransisco HU
MB Quart 5x7 in all four doors
bypass OEM Amp

Later adding
Blaupunkt AO8 10 Disc changer (suggestions on location would be appreciated)
Amp (Brand???)
Small Sub (don't need booming bass)

Any suggestions, info, etc. would be appreciated

It seems like you've done a little research already. All good choices so far. Do you plan to do the work yourself or have a shop do it? Are you budget minded?

What is you budget for the equipment now and then for the sub/amp later? What are your goals - SQ, SPL? What type of music do you listen to?

Welcome. Sounds like you have chosen some good products. A little more info would be needed to give more input on the amp and subs though.

I hadn't really considered a budget up front, but would like to keep it reasonable (under 1000 with CD changer).

I'm really looking for SQ. I listen to just about anything, from rap to classic rock and even a little classical. I listen to everything loud.

As for the install, I haven't decided yet if I'd go to a shop or do it myself. How long would an install like this take? I wouldn't mind doing it, but I'm not sure I'd have the time.

Welcome to the site! I put my changer in the trunk only because I couldn't fit it under the front seat. I found that I rarely changed the discs in that location, but in my previous car, I changed them all the time (with a changer under the seat).

If you want a very nice sounding 10" driver, check out the Stryke SB10 at www.stryke.com. It's a very nice 150.00 driver. If you wanted to get even higher sound quality, try the PL Series 10" sub at the same site.

If you can get away with a 12" sub (1 cubic foot box) look into the SB12 (stryke again) the SAE1204 (109.00 at stryke). The Avatar Audio Shiva, or the Dayton 12DVC. All very similar drivers that will outperform most other speakers at twice their cost.

The install for the deck and speakers should only take about 2 hours. The main thing that I would recommend is getting an adapter for the new Head Unit. Makes the install much easier and quicker. The speakers are very simple.

For any of the subs mentioned, look on ubid for an amp that will put out 2-300 watts into a 4 ohm mono load.

I think all my ranting about ubid is finally wearing off on you guys!

Alright. Heck, for $1000 total, we could help pick out the complete package, save CD changer.

The install question was namely to find out if you could do it as it will allow us to recommend some not so name brand equipment that is mail order only, but excellent quality.

You live in Plymouth? I'd be willing to help you out with the install if you need it to save time.

Components speakers are a little bit more work (I installed a pair in about an hour) but sound excellent.
