ok it seems like here and there, like off and on-- my clutch pedal becomes much harder to depress to the floor than usual
i was afraid it might be on the way out or something, so i tried the, "try to pull off in 3rd gear" trick, and i had no problem at all starting from third

any idea as to what it could be? its really annoying!

thanks

Unless you are feathering the clutch, this should cause a stall if the clutch does not slip.

I have seen changing pedal hardness due to the brake fluid absorbing water. This tends to change with temperature at the cylinders. Obviously a pressure plate problem can cause this too.

I suggest you try the procedure in another car for comparison, or have someone with more experience at it check yours.

Most certainly you should change the clutch fluid and see if that helps. I can't picture a pressure plate failing in such a way that it would cause variable stiffness. I have seen really dirty clutch fluid cause this problem.

Yes, it's on the "How To" section on the main site.
