I wouldn't worry about it, blue smoke happens to all new motors. The reason you don't usually see it, it because they do not have enough flow to make the smoke noticable.

To prove it just go ask any Cobra owner or even classic muscle big block owners. If they paid attention they will have noticed it.

I have three friends that all own Cobras(one is on his second) and it has been pointed out to all of them. It is most noticeable(sp?) when the engine is cold and has just been started. Usually goes away after 500-1000 miles.

Hope this eases your concerns.

1998 CSVT I will get around to getting an intake at some point......maybe even put those PS and ALT pulleys on.

is that true? Using dino oil on new engines?

I think you can just go with synthetic now of these days, I know Demon did with his new engine. . . .

Yes you need to break in rings with 1000 miles of Valvoline or whatever and then switch to the expensive stuff. This is direct from Total Seal where I got the rings from.

Actually my engine already had 4k miles on it. The rings were already broken in.

I added clevite rod bearings and ran dino oil (Mobil 5W30) for the first 500 miles.
Mainly to give a thorough cleaning of any FO that entered the disassembled engine and any excess bearing silt from break in.

I then switched to Mobil 1 0W40.

cool, thanks for the info, I'll run dino for .5k and then switch back to 0W-30 Amsoil+filter, that should be good enough for a turbo charged engine right? (I don't figure I have to change the viscosities any, but thought I'd ask at any rate. . .Houston TX temp's range from 40's in the winter to 120's in the summer, for reference sake on whether I'm choosing the right oil). . .

Oh yeah, Demon, why the switch to -40?

Regular oil in AZ I run 10-40 in the winter and 20-50 in the summer. I plan on running Royal Purple after break in but haven't decided on weight yet. I'm sure I'll run heavier than 0-30.

Better engine protection on both ends.

Better start up flowability and better viscosity at operating temps.

Also less long term thermal break down versus the 5W30.

Funny, I remember telling you that on my 2.5L I ran nothing but 20w-50 in AZ in the summer and 10-w40 in the winter and you thought that was too thick. I still run 10-40 in texas right now, or did when I left
Why the change of heart from 0w-30?
I always felt the thicker oil was better protection against spun bearings and was worth the trade-off of any frictional losses.

A 20 weight IS too thick at start up.

Even a 10 weight has lower start up flow ability.

I never ran 0W30. I ran 5W30 Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 does not make a 5W40.
