Hey, anyone know what would cause the duratec to not fire. Just a breif summary, the car has been sitting for a few months while i was deciding whether or not to swap out an engine but i ended up just changing out the lower bearings. So to make a long story short, i have it all back together, and i hook up the jumper cables to it. the engine cranks over, but no ka-boom...not a single sputter even. so i check the fuses, they're all fine. i check the fuel...im gettin fuel....i double check the fuses and all the connections that have anything to do with the ignition. i also went ahead and checked the ignition coil's resistance across the contacts. i got reading between .48 and .53 ohms. which is within spec. i even put one of my other coils on and a different set of plugs, and still nothing....i dont think that im getting power to my coil...so if you have any intelligent guesses as to why its turning but not burning...?? i would appreciate it

Check that the crank position sensor is connected. If you aren't getting position, you won't get spark.
Have you measure VBatt at the coils? Obviously, you need voltage before you can get spark.

Specify year, engine, and transmission. We are not psychic. There are differences.
For example, if you have a 98 Duratec and there is no battery power to the ignition coil on the Violet/Black wire, check for an open F4 in the BJB box.
If the fuse is good, check the crank sensor.

Also make sure you put the crank pulse wheel on right too, your cam sensor is connected and your coil pack is connected.

It's a 98 SVT tour with the obvious MTX-75, I never disconnected the crank position sensor, but i will double check it. I thought that the ECU could have lost its memory, but it reads as PROM so that isnt the issue. It's as if there is a blown fuse somewhere hidden and invisible. i want to guess to say that I'm not getting any power to my coil, which would cause it to not spark ( kinda obvious). I have no clue as to where there could be a short or break in the circuit, and i already checked all the fuses on both fuse panels. None are blown. Any other ideas?
Thanks

Possible "Pats" issue, if the key doesn't get recognized the starter still gets energized but no voltage from the PCM to the coil. Sorry never had the problem so I can help troublshooting.
What's the led in the clock doing with key off, key on and while cranking?
Just a little something else to have to troubleshoot.

If the Crank Positioning Sensor is OK, stuff a small screwdriver in one of the plugs to see if you get spark. If you do, then keep it cranking while having the gas pedal floored. Keep it going for a while and see if it starts.
Happened on my SE - Was getting fuel and spark. Kept it cranking for almost 40 seconds with my foot floored and it started up....Took a while though.

the clock works, and so do all the other electronics. then again the clock, radio, and windshield wipers dont have much of anything to do with the ECU. Bad idea with the screwdriver in a plug wire...you can fry the coil doing that. i did take one of the plug wires out and put a plug in it to see if i was getting any spark...and i had nothing...can the crank position sensor go bad?...i'd imagine that it could, but i dont think that it's a common problem with the 2.5L duratec.

How could you not disconnect the crank sensor if you chaged out the bearings in the motor????????
Did you do it while it in the car???
