ok so i finaly hooked up my air/fuel gauge yesterday and i know it isnt suposed to do what its doing, when i start it it goes from lean slowly over to rich then just goes back and forth and when i drive it keeps on going back and forth the only time it stops at a certain one is when i get on it and it goes straight to rich and stays there till i let off the gas, i hooked the one wire to the ignition fuze in the fuze box, another into the engine block ground and the final into the front o2 sensor wire (white w/red stripe) on top after the conection from the o2 sensor but before the 2nd connection. what did i do wrong??? i know it wont give a good reading unless you have a wideband o2 sensor but it shouldnt act like this should it??

Yep because belive it or not your cataltic converter has "Breathe" and so it goes back and fourth from Rich to Lean.

Looks like you suffered from the "Hey-I'll-install-this-cuz-it's-cool-lookin'-even-though-I-don't-know-what-it-does" syndrome.

Did you even read the info that comes with the gauge (Autometer explains how these things work).

Rather than explain what/how and A/F guage is or how it works I'll just post this:

the only way you can get your gauge to actually read anything usefull is to get a wideband 02 sensor. Otherwise it is not actually doing anything.
