Hi All,
I've recently fitted the K&N 57i kit to my mondeo ST24 and got a couple of niggles.

1. The filter's been crushed very slightly at the top by the sound proofing in the bonnet. How much flex is in that rubbed accordian tube, should drilling another hole in the
L shaped bracked and bending it down another 1/4 inch be ok.

Should I send it back to K&N and tell me their kit doesn't
fit properly and is a small amount of mesh damage ok?

2. It doesn't seem to pull as it should after the secondaries open up. Is this be heat soak? The chrome cap
on the end of the filter does get warm, almost as hot as the UIM or could it just be pulling better down low.

I suppose my answer to 2 is to take it off & run with the airbox again.

Consumption seems to be down though

Cheers.

That does sound like heat soak. I found that where I live(Texas) my SVT seems to run better with the stock airbox and a drop-in K&N filter. Although the open filter is less restrictive, the hot air seems to retard the timing and there is a noticable power loss.

Make a heatshield and definitely ditch the heat blanket on the bonnet.

Both will increase performance by lowering the air temperature around the filter and under the hood respectively.
