Would it be possible to fit subs in the rear deck? I need to preserve trunk space, that's the only reason I ask...

Were there any mods that had to be made in order to fit the sub in the rear deck?

Well, the hole opening in the rear deack is only about 5.75" in diameter. So depending on what size speaker you want to mount, you will most likely want to enlarge the hole. Some people in the past have just left the hole the size that it is and mounted the sub to a piece of wood with a larger hole (cut to the diameter of the speaker cone).

My messy install, but preserved trunk space. As mentioned, a piece of wood with a larger diameter hole cut out works.

The hole size need not be increased for an 8" sub, a typical grille will have less space to allow air through than the stock hole.
