Does anybody have pics of their SVT clutch that they can post in this thread. I am wondering how a new clutch, a worn clutch, and a damaged clutch differ in appearance.

So if anybody has pictures of a clutch in any one (or all!) of these states I would really appreciate if you could share them.

My SVT is in the shop and I am trying to get the worn synchros repaired under warranty. My Ford technician is telling me that the clutch is worn but not abnormally so, while my warranty company is claiming that the clutch is "paper thin, blued, severly damaged, and worn through" (they're saying this based on some photos their inspector took).

The Ford technician says the worn synchros are caused by a broken blocking ring but the warranty company is sticking to their bogus claim that it was the clutch.

Here's a questions for the All Knowledgable CEG: Is it possible for a worn (maybe damaged) clutch to cause the blocking rings to break? My trusty Ford techy says no, warranty bums say "yeah, sure".

Any pics or technical knowledge you can impart would be much appreciated.

Thank you CEG.

You are not likely to get the warranty company to change their stance.

Can you get the technician to give you his opinion in writing? If so, an approach could be to authorize the work, keep all the old parts, then file a small claims action against the warranty company. With the old parts in hand, obtain the opinion of other experts, such as tech school instructors and other technicians.

In court provide the technicians letter as evidence along with the parts in question.

There is a good chance that the warranty company will not show in court, and even if they do, most small claims judges arn't too happy with extended warranty companies.

To keep the clutch parts, you may need to pay a core charge, but you should get it all back plus your filing fee if you win the jundgment.

I'm trying to picture how a worn or burned clutch is going to cause synchros to wear. Maybe they are trying to claim the clutch wear is an indication on how you drive the car.

Unless there is something I don't see, I don't understand their reason for not honoring the claim.

Thanks for the advice, wish it wasn't such an expensive way and drawn out way to go about getting the work covered.

I don't drive the car hard at all and have only owned it for about a year and half, having put about 10,000 miles on it, so I really don;t think the problem has anything to do with my driving.

Also, if the clutch was so badley worn and burned, wouldn't it be slipping when I shift gears? Well it doesn't so, again, I think they are just jerking my chain.

Nice pics Pete. Looks like your clutch would go in the "damaged" category.

Holy sh*t Pete!! I thought mine was bad. It completely seperated but not like that!!

Original clutch (kinda glazed):

Original pressure plate (all the springs just kind of blew up):

Replacement 'custom' clutch (after only 20k miles):

Don't know why the last pic is so fuzzy...
