Well we got the car not too long ago, however around February, I needed an oil change, and had been at school. So my dad took the car to a local oil shop and got it changed. Anyways, yesterday, I went under the car and tried to budge the drain plug out, however my ratchet kept slipping. It seems that the oil place guy chewed out the bolt. Any suggestions on how to get this thing off? Also, where could I go to pick up a new plug? Thanks

How bad is it ? A 6pt ratchet will be a better grip than a 12pt. Also, Craftsman have these sockets that grip on old, chewed up nuts and boltheads. You could try those.
Good luck.

Before you get the old one out go down to the dealer and pick up a new one. You could always have them change the oil and put the new drain bolt in at that time, shouldn't cost anything extra and dealers are pretty reasonable for oil changes.

I tried that method once with an old car of mine, and they f'd it up worse. With something small like this, better off fixing it yourself/elsewhere and writing a letter to the original shop.

Very carefully use a chizel and knock it into thge side of the drain plug, so it will force the plug loose.

I had the exact same problem several years ago, and the bolt was pretty well rounded off. I took it to several oil change places in my area, however they all said they couldn't get it off and I was in trouble. I took it to the dealer, and they got it off and put a new one on for me. Charged me like 5 bucks for the bolt, but hey it was worth it. So my advice is to take it to the dealer, they will get it done for you. Than begin changing it yourself next oil change.

A while ago, mine was like that too. I tried everything, even vice grips, and that didn't work. Ratchets/sockets don't work because there isn't enough room, with the exhaust there and all. The shop I took it to used a plumbers wrench. I don't see how that could have possibly worked better than vice grips, except maybe, since they had it on a lift, they had better leverage.
