I just got the new SPEC stage I clutch installed. The first thing I noticed is the clutch pedal is very light. It takes almost no pressure to push it to the floor. I think I bled the new slave cylinder correctly, but is this normal for the Spec stage 1 or do I need to bleed the slave again? It does desengage the the PP and allow me to shift, and it does not engage when the pedal is depressed.
Also, I have searched and found some posts about the spec clutchâ??s surging badly until broke-in (500-750 miles). Is there anything I can do so that this surging does not hurt anything?

Surging? I'm not sure I'm familiar with that.
FWIW, my Spec I was quite soft when it was brand spankin' new. Pedal feel is just like stock now.

yea mine was real soft too at the begining, I though for sure i didnt bleed it all the way, so i bled like a whole bottle of fluid thru the system, before i relized there wasnt any air in there The surging you might be talking about might be the chatter that we all seem to get but slowly goes away after break in.

Yes the pedal felt soft for a hundred miles or so.
Never heard of or had any surging problems though.
I re-bled the clutch slave after 1000 miles or so for good measure.

I am glad to hear that the soft pedal is normal. I am looking for the post about the surging and will paste the link once I get it.

you talking about the shuddering that some people got???
Like when starting from a stop in first, and rleease the clutch slowly the frint end shudders and then the car moves.

i just got a spec stage 1 with fidanza aluminum flywheel and was about to post with the same concerns. light pedal feel, shuddering while pulling out,.. also clutch take up seems higher in the pedal travel than before with a shorter range of take up. the shuddering or the catch and slip feeling i thought was because they didnt surface the flywheel, which i asked about and was told that it wasnt. is surfacing necessary with a new aluminum fidanza?

Break it in nice and easy, and everything should be ok. My shuddering went away quickly. Pedal feel became more firm each week of the break in. The only time I'll feel the shudder now is when starting in 2nd (snow). The lower rotating mass dictates this.

thanks man. i was really unsettled initially after the install. reading this thread and your response have calmed the nerves a bit. i'll be happy when everything is broken in properly. was there a noticeable increase in clamping force compared to your stock setup after your adjustment period? i am really hoping this thing grabs alot harder than before.
