Has anybody figured out how to make the Contour NOT squeak and rattle over every bump and turn? My car sounds like it was assembled by a bunch of 8 year olds it rattles and squeaks so much and its only 47k miles old! I dont know where all of it comes from but I know the sunroof and the rear doors are big culprits. The rest I'm not entirely sure of, I think some of it might be in the dash. Lastly, It's a minor complaint, but is there anyway to keep the leather seats from sqeaking, that's really getting at me too. I never used to notice a lot of these sounds when I first bought the car (previous car was a jeep wrangler convertible no wonder), but now that I've had rides in a few VWs, Audis, BMWs and even late model Hondas the small sqeaks and rattles are driving me crazy! In case some of you were wondering the car was never in an accident and there is no frame damage. I really want to keep this car, I love the drivetrain, the handling, the appearance, etc, but I figure I can get the same performance in a better built RWD package from a company like BMW for the same price. I was wondering if cross frame braces, strut tower braces, etc might help alleviate the problem. Thanks in advance, any help I get would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with you, my 96's leather seats squeek too. Did you ever remove your cars back seat? The clips that hold them in tend to not hold everything as tight if the seat is removed. I keep meaning to replace mine. I just read somewhere here the 98+ Contour had many changes to make it more quiet. I wonder what they did.

Without any other explanation I'm just gonna go out on a limb and assume that the structure of the car is just poor. Anybody ever tried opening your door when youve got a corner of the car jacked up? A rigid chassis won't do that. Too bad I guess. Anybody know if the cross frame connectors solve some of the squeaks and rattles?

it could have something to do with the weather you have been in. my car has spent its entire life in florida and just last night i rode in a friends firebird, which was up north for a long timem, and it was sqeaky as hell, then rode in my car and it was virtually silent. just my input.

After 8 years (41k miles) my car squeaks, too. I've come to let myself see that the car is indeed 8 years old, it's seen literally 7 feet of snow from Lake Erie, Hard driving even ocassionally, ontop of that, will lead to the frame twisting and well, squeaking. It sucks, but it is my Contour and with my exhaust I don't pay attention to squeaks anyways

i have no squeeks at all. my only complaint is the rear seat...after i removed it and put it back, the plastic clips dont hold it in, and the seat squeeks randomly sometimes...gotta get around to fixing that...

I agree, for a 1995 model year car, the chasis was pretty stiff. Compared with 2005 models, not stiff. My car has a few squeaks, and the chasis feels a bit flexy, and just plain sucks on brick roads, but check these out: This was parked in my parents driveway. I could rock the car back and forth with my pinky finger. I could open and close the doors, nothing was noticeably different. Kerry

Wow, you don't even need a jack to change the tire.

Pretty funny, I just sold my Jeep Wrangler to get a 99 CSVT too! I have noticed all of the S&R's too, my car sounds like it's going to fall apart at any time! Everybody I know who has a Contour has these same problems, I guess it's just the way these cars were made.

IMO the chassis is pretty stiff, try driving with the windows down and the radio up and see how it "feels". When you can't hear all the noise inside the car it makes a big difference in perception. That said, the problem is really the choice of materials Ford used for the interior of our cars (cheap CREAKY plastics) that are far too responsive to vibration and temperature changes (ever notice that some noises come and go with the weather? ) Two things I have done to reduce noise are 1) take the rear seats apart and spray all the vynil/leather edges with silicone, as well as the edges of the front seats where they rub against the doors and console. Then 2) Wrap the spare tire jack and iron with some cloth and MAKE SURE THEY ARE TIGHT. If the tire and jack arent tight they will make ALOT of noise. Eventually I'll try doing warmonger's method to remove noise from the doors.
