I tried to change the rear O2 sensor today because I get a 172 code & CEL goes on & off. As others have mentioned, I removed the ignition call block and was able to get the special socket over the sensor. However, there was no way I could get a wrench or breaker bar on it to turn it! The air conditioner pipes are in the way! I could see on a car without air that this could work. Anybody have any experience with this setup on a 95 V6? I could get the wrench on it, but there was no room to move the wrench or the breaker bar, which I also tried. Does Ford have some special adapter for this besides just the O2 socket?

Go to the "How To" section on the Main Page. There's some good info. A stuby 7/8" or 22mm wrench would probably help too.

As I've posted several times in the past, go to AutoZone and rent their free O2 sensor toolkit. It comes with all the sockets you need, including a crowsfoot that you slip over the O2 socket and loosen from underneath using a ratchet and a long extension or two. With these tools it's about as easy as changing my oil filter to replace that upper rear sensor.

If I had to do it again, I'd go with either a stubby 7/8" from underneath or a long handled 7/8" from above.

From the top, I found there was just enough room to get the O2 socket and a skinny, 3/8" breaker bar on the sensor. I put the socket on the sensor first, and then wiggled the breaker bar down in between all the stuff to attach to the socket. I had to kneal on the UIM to reach down and get the tools hooked up so I could actually loosen the sensor. You may need to reposition the socket on the sensor to get the 3/8" drive hole positioned so you can loosen it a few degrees. The good news is once you break it loose, you can usually turn it the rest of the way out by hand. The AC hoses had to pushed slightly out of the way to wiggle the tools in place.
