my amp is getting power, but no audio signal. I hope my HU isn't jacked up for the sub output, as the door speakers work fine. I know I could lug my home amp outside to test, anyone know what if any voltage the rca's should carry?

Thx.

Older systems were about 1 volt. Newer systems can go all the way up to 6 volts. It is diffucult to measure with a voltmeter. At normal volume the signal will only be 0.1 to 0.5 volts.

The best way to test a system is to plug a discman into the input of the amp. If you still get no sound, check your "Remote" turn on wire (it's usually blue).

It's a bad idea to use home equipment in a car. Home equipment is built differently. I blew the output transistors on one of my home amps while testing a car audio system. Now I use a boombox with a line input.

<<Edit>> Actually, I should say I use one of these... RadioShack Mini Audio Amp For $12 you can't go wrong.<<Edit>>

BTW, you need your meter on the "AC Volts" setting to see anything.

get a mutlimeter and check to make sure you have 12volts at the Remote turn on when the Radio is on. you can take your multimeter also and hook up one lead to the center conductor and the other to the outer conductor set the meter on AC and turn the stereo up.. Also make sure your non fader output is turned on if the headunit has it if your connected to that. What kinda amp do you have anyhow?

99% of the headunits out there ar .75volts to 16volts(balanced) I blew the inputs on a Vega series amp onetime it looked like it was on but nothing worked. Bad Tranistor cuased it..
Any questions post or pm
