Hey all -

Yesterday I took advantage of the nice weather and put in a lot of the audio stuff from my old contour into the new one. Set up my amp and sub in the trunk, ran my power and RCA's, and that works fine. However, when I installed the Kenwood Z919 mp3 cd player, I have no sound from the four door speakers. The sub is running off an amp in the trunk supplied with RCA outs, but I was planning on driving the door speakers off the head unit. All the wires are matched up for the four speaker pairs, but now only the sub works. I checked the head unit by hooking up the speaker outs directly to some spare speakers, and it works fine. Is there somewhere in the ford speaker wires that I may have disconnected during the install ? I checked all the fuses, and all my splicing , and everything is okay. I'm really puzzled on this one .... Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions

You need to bypass the factory amp. You can get the amp bypass cable for $12 or so. You'll have to search for the audio forum for a link, as I don't have the address.

Yeah i was just looking into that... the thing is, the car already had an aftermarket (blaupunkt) cd player in there, which leads me to believe that the amp has already been bypassed. The guy had the blaupunkt hooked up to the stock wires it seems and the car sounded fine. I wanted the kenwood in the car to add mp3 functionality. How can i tell if the premium sound has already been bypassed or not? Is there a chance that blaupunkt CD player works without bypassing the factory amp and the kenwood does not? Thanks

If you drop down the glove box (two things that push inwards on the sides) you will see an amp (the only thing in there with heatsinks) If it is bypassed the amp will either be gone or won't be connected.

Highly doubtful (especially with the symptoms you're describing). Most people aren't aware of its existence.

What's happening is that the remote turn-on lead from your new HU is not connected to the remote turn-on lead that goes to the factory amp. Hence, the factory amp is not turning on with your new HU.

The Blau obviously had its turn-on lead hooked up to the factory amp, so it would work.

Solution: Bypass factory amp, throw factory amp in trash, enjoy tunes.

Oh man, I bet that's the trick. I hooked up the remote wire for the amp in the trunk with the red ignition wire and the red wire to the HU. After doing this, I didn't see the point of hooking up the blue remote wire... (It's blue, right ? or is it blue/white) So when i get home from school i'll hook that up to temporarily restore power to the crap glovebox amp until the bypass is here. I found the link for the bypass... That'll be the next project in the upcoming weeks. Thanks for all your help.
