So...I'd really like my trunk lid to actually lift up, rather than me lifting it up. Apparently the factory shocks are not designed to do this. I'm wondering...anybody have any idea where I can get replacements that will? I've seen Honda's that lift up like I want, and have seen some other Ford's lift partly up. I really would like it to unlatch, then lift all the way to completely open, and stay there. Anyone have any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks!

ditto on that. i think the trunk lid was poorly designed..at least on my 98 'tour gl. on random moments, the weight of the trunk lid causes it to close and latch all over again before i have a chance to lift it up.

Ditto, I know there is a part number floating around for a little spring that will keep the lid from reclosing but i cant remember where I saw it.

its in the FAQ section, i am also wondering about the shocks. i bought the spring which is nice for keeping the trunk from re-latching, but it still doesn't lift all the way up.

If your trunk lid does not have a spoiler attached to it, you could order the "shocks" for a trunk with a spoiler. They are rated for more weight, and theoretically would make opening your non-spoilered trunk easier.

The Mazda 6 has them from the factory
Not sure how easily they could be installed on a Contour but it's an option...

The Mazda is hinged outside the trunk. Our contours have those hinge arms in the trunk. Mazda Parts won't work here.
