Thanks to Wes (wjang) convincing me it was possible, I purchased and installed Infinity Kappa 6x9 3ways in my front doors this weekend ($169 at Crutchfield). The only tricks:

1. Used Dynomat (ok, add another $15), finally no rattles!!

2. Mount the speaker with the power connections at the bottom. This will allow you to move the speaker up higher in the existing hole, which is important for it to completely clear the door panel. Only down side is that the speaker looks "upside down", but nobody will see it anyway.

3. Use the spacers that come with the speakers. This will reduce the mounting depth enough to clear the window.

4. I ended up using only one of the existing screw holes and drilling the other three. Make sure you roll the window up before drilling.

5. Total job time for a hack like me: about 2.5 hours, but that was with my 3year old "helping". If I had to do it over again, i could probably do it in less than an hour.

Sound is a marked improvement over the Pioneers. Found an saxaphone in a Dire Straits song I've been listening to for years, but i was even more surprised by the improved bass response. I HIGHLY recommend doing this over the Pioneer "exact fit" 6x8 speakers.

Glad the Kappas worked out for you.
Try putting a pair of 2-way Kappas in the rear doors for even more bottom end. Oh, I forgot, you have a subwoofer. Never mind.

I just bought (2) sets of Kappa 693.1's
I won;t be mounting them until my car gets out of the shop and I build a (4) sub box for my (4) Infinity Kappa Perfs

Did I mention I only paid $147(per pair) for mine :-)

what's the depth of those infinity 6x9s? I'm thinking of moving my cerwin vega 5x7's to the back and put some nice 6x9s up front.
