Last I was updated by EBGames (I think) was November 11. I think they'd be stupid to wait till after Christmas though.

I post over on the Playstation.com forums mostly in the GT3 and Racing sections as well as the gtplanet.com forums. There is no solid release date yet and speculation puts the car list around 500+ with everything from Model T's to recent Concepts like the HSV from Honda. Lots of Mustangs have been hinted at as well as race cars from Rally to F1. Hopefully no NASCAR though. Ick. 100 or so tracks are also rumored, but we won't know until closer to release whcih should be this fall/early winter.

Some of the rumors indicate that "every" previous GT1, GT2 and GT3 car will be included, so the Mondeo would be likely if that were true.

From what I've seen, the graphical improvements have been more environmental than in the cars themselves, but an interview with a Polyphony Digital rep that I saw claimed the polygon count is higher for the cars as well.

I think the biggest disappointment for me, and one that will probably never be resolved due to licensing problems, is crash/collision damage. Sony swears that certain companies won't allow it in their licensing

True... I should have said that a real steering wheel isn't an on/off switch, but the left-right control on a video game is (well, except for PC joysticks). The engine used for the first two Test Drive games solved this by having joystick movements control the position of the steering wheel, which in turn decided where the car would point. No other driving game has done it this way, AFAIK; even in the GT games (which are pretty damn good, IMO) your steering wheel's an on/off switch.

They can be, if you use the default controls. But that's why they added the pressure-sensitive analog controllers on the bottom of the game pads.
