I just had a quick question. A couple days ago i noticed that my gauges were not working in my car anymore. I went to Autozone and replaced the fuses for the gauges but they still dont work. Later that day I was driving my car around and it started to hesitate really bad so I pulled into the parking lot and let it idle for a little bit (sounded really rough) and it eventually died and would not start back up.
Just wondering if anyone has had a problem like this before? Maybe it is the plugs or wires? It seems like it may be something electrical. I dont really know but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Yeah, alternator is a strong possibility. But check your battery first: is it putting out 12+ volts?

Well, I just went back out to my car and the battery is dead. The alternator is a strong possibility but this same problem happened about a month ago also. Took out the alternator and took it to get checked at AutoZone and everything checked out fine. We took the car to Firestone and they fixed the problem (replaced a fuse i think). I tried to call them to see which one they replaced but they couldnt help me. Does anyone know of a fuse that is in line with the wiring harness? My dad talked to someone and I guess they said that this could be the problem but I dont know. Thanks again for all of your help.

I was told that everytime your alternator goes out you should also replace your battery since a dying alternator will put lots of strain on a battery and hamper its ability to recharge, I'd replace that battery and see what happens. I guess this is somewhat related, but does anyone know how to fix a speedo that is off by about 7mph? I was told to pace with someone at 60mph and then just reposition the needle. Any truth to that?

This is true, I went through 4 alternators and 6 batteries before I found this out.

That is how I re-calibrated my speedo when I replaced the instrument cluster. I just leave the cover off and pull the needle almost completely off. Find a nice quite streach of road, set the cruise, pull the needle all the way off and put it back on pointing at the correct speed.

There is one thats between the alternator and the battery, not really a fuse but just a connection thing. I had the exact problems on my contour, and thats what the problem, the connection between the alternator and the battery.
