Hi everyone...
Today I noticed that my 98 Mystik (2.5 V6) is making a really weird "ticking" sound, sort of like a movie projector. It seems to be coming from the intake manifold area of the engine, and is really loud, althought it can't be heard from inside the car.
I recorded the noise: (115kb WAV file)

I'm guessing it's the valves, although I just don't know for sure. The car has 240,000km on it, and has never been rebuilt... is it time?

[censored] man that sounds loud as hell. How many miles is 240,000km, you may very well need a rebuild.

240,000km = 148,800mi
What is that noise?

Timing chain tensioner/pulley, or your injectors??

Possibly one of the pullies off of the Serp Belt? Can you determine if its coming from the left or right side of the engine?

Is your serp belt itself in good condition? Sometimes those things can get loud when they wear out.

I think I have isolated this "noise" as being the injectors (Thanks ray!). By placing a screwdriver against my ear and 'probing' several points in the vicinity of the noise I discovered that it is *very loud* when I hold the screwdriver against the fuel rail. I took it to a local mechanic today, and he confirmed the diagnosis. :)
