Sorry if this has been posted for the thousandth time, but I'm kind of new at this and could use some advice from more experienced CEGers.
I was interested in purchasing some "super white" headlamp and highbeam bulbs for my Contour. One of my lights burned out anyway, so I figured it was a good excuse to upgrade to better lighting. Anyway, I'm asking for advice on what kind of bulbs to buy, what serial numbers, etc. What kind of wattage, etc do I need?
After searching the CEG forums, I found some information, but nothing definitive. I also didn't find anything on highbeams, only the headlamps themselves. The only thing I know is that PIAA and Sylania make a number of bulbs (Sylvania under the "Silverstar" brand?) but nothing more than that.
Also, I live in Jersey and the cops instate tend to be a bit on the harsh side -- so I'd like to get advice something that is street legal so I don't have to deal with the cops.
Thanks fellas!

I would say the silverstars are the best. You can pick them up at wallmart for about $38 a pair and they are DOT legal. You would need a 9006 (low beam) and 9005 (high beam).

i'm very pleased with my philips bluevision. they put out more lumens than the silverstars.
as far as high beam, pick a bulb and buy 4 high beam bulbs. use two for the low beam sockets. doing a search will explain how to do this. its extremely easy

I have the PIAA Super Whites and I like them a lot. They light up the road better than regular halogen and they are 1,000 times better than the Phillips cool blue headlghts that were on the car when I bought it. I couldn't see anything out in the country with the blue bulbs.

I too have the APC Hyperwhites and they are ok on dry ground, but are useless when it's raining out.

Get the Sylvania silverstar 9005's (its very easy to mod them, check the FAQ ) The 9005 is a high beam and DOES fit into the low beam socket and once you do this, you'll be amazed The best $40.00 you can spend, hands down!

Hey Fellas -- Thanks for the advice all around. After looking around for both the Sylvania SilverStars and the PIAAs, I ended up buying the SilverStars 9005 and 9006 for the high beams and low beams respectively. They were at the AutoZone that I went to and the price was pretty good. I installed them and went out that night and must say they make a big difference in lighting! I'm very pleased.
Thanks everyone for the advice, I really appreciate all the feedback!
