Is there any sort of "bench test" for a DPFE to determine if it's functioning correctly? I grabbed a couple at the junkyard today - thought it would be nice to verify if they're good. The two I grabbed both have a metal case. Is that OE for a '95, or are these replacements?

Thanks....

The metal units are I believe original units. The new units are a type of plastic. BUT here's my story. I changed my unit and it was not the problem. The problem was that the Exhaust Gas Return channel from the EGR valve to the air intake plenum was blocked. I cleaned it out and spent $7.00 ojn a new gasket and fixed the problem. I think the engine code was PO302 or Po 304.You should get a check engine light if either is acting up.

the engine code for the blocked up passage behind the
throttle body is a code 401 on the 96 contour.. and the original dpfe is silver metal case.... the new replacement ones are black plastic....
hope this helps. and also does anyone know how to test the
dpfe other than changing them out???????????

How would the car drive if the sensor is bad?

You might not notice it at all. EGR is implemented primarily as a means of reducing NOX output. Faulure of EGR generally isn't noticeable except to the "tail-pipe sniffer".

The Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (sensor) measures EGR gas flow for the computer.

The EGR Vacuum Regulator controls the EGR valve for the computer.

The Exhaust Gass Recirculation valve lets controled ammounts of exhaust back to the intake.
