The days where I was a little "iffy" on the looks are fading and I think I can live with the interior, though it is a bit disappointing for a $50K vehicle (hey, it's GM, whaddya expect?).

I simply came to the realization I couldn't pass up a RWD sedan wrapped around a T56 6-speed and an LS6. I'm not fond of 1st model year purchases (been burned once ), so I may wait until the '05s come out, but GOD is that car calling my name louder and louder every day and it's getting hard not to start licking door-handles and marking my territory at the local Caddy dealers...

Eh...

The cost advantage between a pushrod and a overhead cam'd engine is debatable. Sure, the ONE engine may cost less, but if your entire line of automobiles (read: Toyota) have overhead cam engines, it will cost MORE to produce an entire NEW line of engines rather than just integrating the cam parts from your existing lines.

More power? Well... maybe...

Quote:

"Power is a function of airflow, pure and simple," says Winegarden. ... Four valves generally have greater total valve area than two, thus creating greater airflow and more power.

Doesn't really debunk OHC engines...

Ugh... and this?

Quote:

...Such an engine would be cheaper to build than the complex DOHC V-8 that's now in the Tundra pickup, and Toyota would also realize some marketing benefits from the huge racing investment. The irony is almost too sweet to imagine.

There's no "Win the race on Sunday, buy it on Monday" mentality in NASCAR (or NASTRUCK) like there is in, say, motorcycle racing.

Besides, Toyota is already has its racing investment in F1.

I'm still planning on the H22 swap into the Accord. I also purchased a 1983 Civic hatchback and I'm debating what motor to put in that. The darn thing weighs 1,500 lbs.

I would suggest an LS1.

How about a no on that. Sorry but the only decent sound GM produces is in the V8's. 3.8 and anything w/o 8 cyl. sounds like arse IMO.

I think he was specifically talking about the V8s and not a 4 cylinder out of a Citation.

Although, their plasma powered pushrod 4 cylinders do sound damned good.

I should have been a bit more specific. I had the V8 models in mind when I typed that.

I'll take that antiquated technology anyday. This isn't an old turd with some fine polishing. This is a tried, tested, proven engine for Chevrolet. As far as pushing that technology to it's limit, that will be the 600+ HP N/A engine that will come in the blue devil. I have to agree HP/liter is useless. Look at the power it makes, the torque it makes, then look at the fuel economy the LS1 is getting. It gets better mileage than my Focus. That's just sick.

Don't get me wrong here, I love what Ford has done with thier powerplants as well. Offering a factory supercharged engine is awesome, the idea of gaining massive HP with a belt change is great. I honestly don't see why Chevrolet doesn't adapt a twin tubo setup for thier V8 models (aside from the idea that most drivers will not be able to drive an 800hp car around too easily)

I saw a CTS-V at the Caddy dealer. I thought they had two outside, but then I realized that one of them was a regular CTS tarted up with a billet grille, ground effects, and chrome 17"s. Color me disappointed...GM does it again.
